N2  - In this paper we describe the design and development process of an electromagnetic picker for rivets. These rivets are used in a production process  of leather or textile design objects like riveted waist belts or purses. The picker is designed such that it replaces conventional mechanical pickers thus avoiding mechanical wear problems and increasing the process quality. The paper illustrates the challenges in the design process of this mechatronic system. The design process was based on both simulation and experiments leading to a prototype that satisfies the requirements.
