Sensorless position controlled stop for a switched reluctance motor

  • The current paper proposes a sensorless position hold control method for a switched reluctance motor. It is based on a recently developed method for sensorless speed control of a switched reluctance motor using the switching frequency or equivalently the switching period of the hysteresis current controllers for the motor phases for switching instant detection. The developed method selects the appropriate phases at the time instant, the position controlled stop is enabled and determines the appropriate phase current setpoints as well as the controller parametrization for the position control loop. Core saturation is considered. The method is validated by simulations and measurements.
