Use of AI systems in foreign language teaching in higher education – a discussion paper
- The AKS working group’s discussion paper, ‘Use of AI systems in Foreign Language Teaching in Higher Education’, highlights the opportunities and challenges of using generati-ve AI systems in higher education, and the necessary adjustments that need to be made. The paper discusses changes in student learning behaviour, legal frameworks, didactic and exam-related implications, and issues in digital and AI-related competence development. Particular attention is paid to promoting the reflective and responsible use of AI in language teaching, ensuring the fairness and quality of exam formats, and integrating a sustainability perspective. The paper emphasises the irreplaceable value of human teaching and social learning in langua-ge centres and considers AI to be a complementary tool rather than a substitute.
