In an increasingly competitive environment, suppliers are now seen as an important source of innovation. Long term partnerships enable companies to access the knowledge of suppliers to optimize their business. "Procurement 4.0" is one of the concepts that come to the fore when talking about digitalization of business processes. The major aim of this research is to discuss a conceptual model of "Procurement 4.0" and its potential to rethink the management of supplier relationships, which will be one of the main future tasks of procurement. The paper is based on a factual-analytical research approach that serves to continuously specify and supplement the elements of the frame of reference: Two challenging concepts, "Procurement 4.0" and Supplier Relationship Management, are merged to contribute to the fact that purchasing is indispensable as an "interface" within a global supply chain to reap the benefits of digitization. The factors that prove to be obstacles to digital supplier relationship management along the digital supplier journey - e.g. lack of guidelines, approaches or tools and a lack of understanding of the importance of long-term relationships - are reflected within the identified technologies of digital transformation. A comprehensive analysis of the given situation within digital supplier relationship management in Germany is provided. The most important digital supplier touchpoints are discussed in order to develop a traditional supplier relationship towards a digital relationship management. Thus, this paper succeeds in illustrating how the innovative concept of a supplier journey can be implemented in practice to counteract the future, entrepreneurial challenges.
India’s growth: perspectives for Indo-European business “Skilled labour in India: bridging the gap”

The following paper is based on a survey conducted for ESB Business School and will show how German companies perceive India’s labour market. Besides existing geographical and sectoral gaps we will reveal gaps in the required qualification profile. Thinking merely of hard qualification factors like education levels, skills etc., though, would be short-sighted. Often cited intercultural qualifications also play an important role.
What can be done? What should be done to bridge these gaps? These will be the leading questions of this chapter. We will discuss some solutions – not forgetting that the problems German companies face are complex and knowing there is no ideal way. However, we will see that some of the most urgent problems can be solved or reduced by Indo-European or Indo-German co operation models in the field of vocational training and institutions of higher education.
Since 2000, Indian special economic zones were established with the intention to attract foreign direct investment. We present a first empirical assessment with new data from 1980 to 2010 and evaluate the outcome after 10 years. In general, our empirical results confirm that special economic zones attract FDI statistical significantly. Another finding of the study is that open economies with stable inflation attract more FDI than small and closed economies.
Hypericin is one of the most efficient photosensitizers used in photodynamic tumor therapy (PDT). The reported treatments of this drug reach from antidepressive, antineoplastic, antitumor and antiviral activity. We show that hypericin can be optically detected down to a single molecule at ambient conditions. Hypericin can even be observed inside of a cancer cell, which implies that this drug can be directly used for advanced microscopy techniques (PALM, spt-PALM, or FLIM). Its photostability is large enough to obtain single molecule fluorescence, surface enhanced Raman spectra (SERS), fluorescence lifetime, antibunching, and blinking dynamics. Sudden spectral changes can be associated with a reorientation of the molecule on the particle surface. These properties of hypericin are very sensitive to the local environment. Comparison of DFT calculations with SERS spectra show that both the neutral and deprotonated form of hypericin can be observed on the single molecule and ensemble level.
Strong optical mode coupling between two adjacent λ/2 Fabry-Pérot microresonators consisting of three parallel silver mirrors is investigated experimentally and theoretically as a function of their detuning and coupling strength. Mode coupling can be precisely controlled by tuning the mirror spacing of one resonator with respect to the other by piezoelectric actuators. Mode splitting, anti-crossing and asymmetric modal damping are observed and theoretically discussed for the symmetric and antisymmetric supermodes of the coupled system. The spectral profile of the supermodes is obtained from the Fourier transform of the numerically calculated time evolution of the individual resonator modes, taking into account their resonance frequencies, damping and coupling constants, and is in excellent agreement with the experiments. Our microresonator design has potential applications for energy transfer between spatially separated quantum systems in micro optoelectronics and for the emerging field of polaritonic chemistry.
How companies use digital technologies to enhance customer offerings - summary of survey findings

Digital technologies are transforming how companies do business. Social, mobile, analytics, cloud, and the Internet of Things - which together we refer to as SMACIT - along with artificial intelligence, blockchain, and an ongoing procession of new technologies create new capabilities : specifically, ubiquitous data, unlimited connectivity, and massive, affordable processing power.
The variety and interdependencies of enterprise systems that digitize large organizations’ processes have grown significantly, resulting in complex enterprise systems landscapes. Avoiding such complexity requires addressing the IT-business engagement gap between (inadvertent) producers of complexity in the business and those in IT who have to manage it. We identify mechanisms for tackling three components of this gap: 1) bridging the awareness gap through information sharing, 2) narrowing the incentive gap through shared goals, and 3) closing the authority gap by evening out power differentials through empowerment.
Monday is unique for its reputation as a “bad” day—one that is characterized by pessimism and reluctance as noted by Rystrom and Benson (Financ Anal J 45(5):75–78, 1989). But the extent to which this applies to stock markets is still in dispute. While early evidence points to a Monday effect leading to negative returns, recent studies tend to suggest its disappearance or reversal.As a replication study, this paper searches for new evidence of this effect in the German stock market.We use data on the German blue-chip index DAX between 2000 and 2017 to test for the presence of a Monday effect by applying regression and controlling with GARCH analysis. The observation period provides a detailed insight into different market phases in one of the most liquid and information efficient international stock markets. Our results contribute no evidence to the persistent existence of a Monday effect on the German stock market. Our analysis is robust against the background of different market sentiments before, during and after the financial crisis.

Steigern Unternehmen, die Lean-Production-Methoden einsetzten, ihren Unternehmenswert, und wenn ja, wie sehr? Das Autorenteam der Hochschule Reutlingen hat das Zusammenspiel der Managementkonzepte Working Capital Management und Wertorientierung untersucht und stellt die ermutigenden Ergebnisse anhand je eines Szenarios für ein Großunternehmen und ein KMU vor.
Alle DAX30-Unternehmen kommunizieren ihre Kapitalkosten, ausgelöst einerseits aus IFRS-Vorgaben, andererseits, weil sie ihre wertorientierte Performancemessung und -steuerung belegen wollen. Bei der Berechnung der Kapitalkosten verwenden die Unternehmen i. d. R. den WACC-Ansatz. Die Tiefe der Angaben variiert von der bloßen Bekanntgabe eines Prozentsatzes bis hin zur vollständigen Offenlegung aller Inputfaktoren für deren Berechnung. Die Autoren argumentieren, dass die Transparenz der Kapitalkosten jedoch wenig Mehrwert schafft, da die in die Berechnung einfließenden Parameter wie z. B. risikoloser Zins, Marktrendite oder unternehmensindividuelles Beta stark schwanken bzw. nahezu willkürlich ermittelt werden. Die von den DAX30 Konzernen zurzeit praktizierte Form der Transparenz schafft für die Adressaten der Geschäftsberichte daher nur einen geringen Erkenntnisgewinn.
Der eine Eingliederungsvereinbarung ersetzende Verwaltungsakt ist rechtswidrig, wenn die gesetzlich vorgesehene Geltungsdauer ohne Ermessenserwägungen überschritten wird.
