The article pleads for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the textile and fashion sector and shows possibilities how this can be implemented from elementary school to higher education and vocational training. It begins by highlighting the non-sustainable practices and deficits that can be found in the fashion and textile sector worldwide and explains the sustainability goals in the context of the UN Roadmap ESD for 2030. In order to raise the awareness for sustainability and implement these goals, education is needed. The article introduces the concept of ESD as a guiding principle with the core element design competence, implemented by the interdisciplinary method of Design Thinking (DT). In order to successfully teach the ESD-relevant design competence, various didactic principles are required. It can be shown that they are very similar to the principles and phases of DT. Within a research project DT and its potential for implementing ESD has been investigated in teaching-learning situations at elementary schools as well as in an interdisciplinary seminar for student teachers. These findings have been transferred to the EU project Fashion DIET, which pursues the goal of implementing ESD in the textile and fashion sector. By means of an online pilot workshop, the methods and principles of DT were presented and explained to lecturers, teachers and educators, who gave their feedback on the potential of DT as a method to implement ESD as a guiding principle in their curricula.
Monitoring tautomerization of single hypericin molecules in a tunable optical λ/2 microcavity

Hypericin tautomerization that involves the migration of the labile protons is believed to be the primary photophysical process relevant to its light-activated antiviral activity. Despite the difficulty in isolating individual tautomers, it can be directly observed in single-molecule experiments. We show that the tautomerization of single hypericin molecules in free space is observed as an abrupt flipping of the image pattern accompanied with fluorescence intensity fluctuations, which are not correlated with lifetime changes. Moreover, the study can be extended to a λ/2 Fabry–Pérot microcavity. The modification of the local photonic environment by a microcavity is well simulated with a theoretical model that shows good agreement with the experimental data. Inside a microcavity, the excited state lifetime and fluorescence intensity of single hypericin molecules are correlated, and a distinct jump of the lifetime and fluorescence intensity reveals the temporal behavior of the tautomerization with high sensitivity and high temporal resolution. The observed changes are also consistent with time-dependent density functional theory calculations. Our approach paves the way to monitor and even control reactions for a wider range of molecules at the single molecule level.
Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) affect a large number of children both in the Russian Federation and in Germany. Early diagnosis is key for these children, because the sooner parents notice such disorders in a child and the rehabilitation and treatment program starts, the higher the likelihood of his social adaptation. The difficulties in raising such a child lie in the complexity of his learning outside of children's groups and the complexity of his medical care. In this regard, the development of digital applications that facilitate medical care and education of such children at home is important and relevant. The purpose of the project is to improve the availability and quality of healthcare and social adaptation at home of children with ASD through the use of digital technologies.
We investigated the excitation modes of the light-harvesting protein phycocyanin (PC) from Thermosynechococcus vulcanus in the crystalline state using UV and near-infrared Raman spectroscopy. The spectra revealed the absence of a hydrogen out-of-plane wagging (HOOP) mode in the PC trimer, which suggests that the HOOP mode is activated in the intact PC rod, while it is not active in the PC trimer. Furthermore, in the PC trimer an intense mode at 984 cm−1 is assigned to the C–C stretching vibration while the mode at 454 cm−1 is likely due to ethyl group torsion. In contrast, in the similar chromophore phytochromobilin the C5,10,15-D wag mode at 622 cm−1 does not come from a downshift of the HOOP. Additionally, the absence of modes between 1200 and 1300 cm−1 rules out functional monomerization. A correlation between phycocyanobilin (PCB) and phycoerythrobilin (PEB) suggests that the PCB cofactors of the PC trimer appear in a conformation similar to that of PEB. The conformation of the PC rod is consistent with that of the allophycocyanin (APC) trimer, and thus excitonic flow is facilitated between these two independent light harvesting compounds. This excitonic flow from the PC rod to APC appears to be modulated by the vibration channels during HOOP wagging, C = C stretching, and the N–H rocking in-plan vibration.
