Relationship marketing is an important issue in every business. Knowing the customers and establishing, maintaining and enhancing long-term customer relationships is a key component of long-term business success. Considering that sport is such big business today, it is surprising that this crucial approach to marketing has yet to be fully recognised either in literature or in the sports business itself. Relationship Marketing in Sports aims to fill this void by discussing and reformulating the principles of relationship marketing and by demonstrating how relationship marketing can be successfully applied in practice within a sports context. Ambush Marketing im Rahmen von Sport-Events wird zunehmend zum Bestandteil im Marketing-Mix von Unternehmen. Die gesellschaftliche Relevanz dieses Phänomens drückt sich nicht zuletzt auch durch die steigende Anzahl von Studien aus, die zum Thema Ambush Marketing angestellt werden. In Deutschland beschränkten sich Untersuchungen zu Ambush Marketing bislang bemerkenswerterweise weitestgehend auf Fußball-Großereignisse. Somit waren die Olympischen Spiele 2012 in London ein willkommener Anlass, einen Beitrag zur Schließung dieser Forschungslücke zu leisten.
Ziel dieser Studie war es, durch eine empirische Erhebung innerhalb des deutschen Konsumentenmarkts verschiedene Tendenzen zu Wahrnehmung, Kenntnis und Einstellung der Probanden zu den Themen Sponsoring und Ambush Marketing aufzuzeigen. Die dabei gewonnenen Erkenntnisse wurden abschließend in den Kanon bisheriger Studien eingereiht, indem sie mit den Ergebnissen entsprechender Untersuchungen bei früheren Olympischen Spielen verglichen wurden.
